Sobre el curso
In this first ever online course, Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture expert Dr Peter Swan guides us through time-tested gardening techniques that are in accord with the deep principles of Maharishi AyurVeda.
Open to all practitioners of Transcendental Meditation, this immersive course will take place over five weeks, with two meetings 1 hour-15 minutes long each week, giving you a vision of gardening in accord with natural law and enabling you to start a garden or improve an existing one with higher quality crops and flowers, less weeds, pests, and disease, and improved soil fertility year by year, all with less work and more joy.
The course connects gardening with Maharishi AyurVeda, the ancient Vedic system of health revived by Maharishi, bringing out the relationship between soil fertility, consciousness, and health. Maharishi AyurVeda is preventive; it focuses on creating ideal health by creating balance through lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, sleep, and daily routines. It puts our health in our own hands.
By the end of the course, you will have an understanding of the most fundamental and up-to-date aspects and techniques of organic agriculture and gardening, which are also the simplest to follow. You will have new inspiration and practical tips for growing your own highly nutritious food (and flowers!) with much less work.
All the sessions will be conducted live, including many opportunities to ask questions of Dr Swan – this interactive aspect allows the course to be customised according to the needs of the group. The recorded sessions will also be available online for three months after the course ends.
The course is suitable for both beginner and advanced gardeners, and regardless of experience, you will gain a whole new understanding based on Maharishi Vedic Science.
If Maharishi AyurVeda interests you and you want to apply its principles to your gardening, or even start a garden, this course is for you. This is the first time a gardening course is being offered at MERU in terms of Maharishi AyurVeda.
What is Vedic Agriculture?
Vedic farming and gardening are for the higher consciousness of the farmer and the customer, nourishing a healthy society and allowing the environment to blossom in its full potential.
Vedic Agriculture engages the support of natural law so that all the farmer’s activity is supported. We can do this on several levels. Anyone can easily learn practical farming and gardening methods that naturally support the health of the soil and crop, and give excellent yields and quality, reduce weeds, pests, and disease, and improve soil quality year after year, all with much less work.
To further optimise health and vitality we also balance the key elements of Maharishi AyurVeda for the soil and crop – the three Doshas (governing principles), Agni (digestion and metabolism principle), the Dhatus (tissues transforming), and Srotas (channels). All these should be taken into account so that our food balances those elements in us.
The structure of natural law, the structure of Veda, is expressed throughout creation, including in the soil nutrient cycle and plants. Insight into this kind of complete knowledge of agriculture gives deep confidence and appreciation to our gardening and farming.
When every activity and intention of the farmer is spontaneously right and supported by natural law, the rains come on time, the sun shines kindly on the crops, and the moon’s rays nourish and cool them. This intimacy with the garden and farm comes naturally when the home of all the laws of nature is owned in consciousness through regular practice of Transcendental Meditation.
Nosotros Dr Peter Swan
Dr Peter Swan was born in South Africa, where he grew up on a farm. He is a Transcendental Meditation teacher and has taught TM to 4,000 people. In 1983/84 he co-led a project in rural South African schools in which 10,000 students and their teachers were taught Transcendental Meditation.
After graduating as a Maharishi AyurVeda Consultant in 1990 he practised for 10 years with over a thousand patients.
Peter had the good fortune to work for eight years under Maharishi’s direct guidance on Vedic agriculture projects on four continents. During that time the farm projects were moved away from ploughing to no-till and shallow-till with compost and compost tea treatments.
Also during that time, Peter studied with leading organic farmers, researchers, and teachers in Europe, the USA, and Latin America, to discover the best farming and gardening methods and practices to improve crop quality, yield, and soil quality, and reduce work and pollution.
Maharishi asked Dr Swan to develop a course on organic agriculture and gardening, and he has taught this course since 2008 in over 30 countries with excellent results. Farmers and gardeners find they get better quality and higher yields with much less work while improving their soil year by year.
Peter also integrated the foundations of Vedic agriculture and modern science to show how the structure of Veda is expressed in the soil and plant nutrient cycle.
